About the Project
History is a true story about the past. The e-histories project is about celebrating community and connections by telling stories.
If people in our community are talking, listening, laughing together, if they are surprised and interested in what is going on, they will want to learning more. E-history events are celebrations, we have fun we learn by doing!
- Who- The e-histories idea is about finding common ground for sharing experiences, and interests. It is about getting people talking about who they are and what they have experienced, and getting other people interested enough to ask questions. Young people are leading the way but e-histories is for everybody living and working in the local community.
- What - The aim is to build a collection of inclusive, eclectic oral histories from all sections of the community. The historians and storytellers include people of different ages from different cultures and linguistic backgrounds. Many of the interviews are recorded in the storyteller's mother tongue. Sometimes the stories are recreated in art for example collages and poetry.
- The stories are preserved digitally on a CD with extracts on the web.
- When - Histories are recorded as part of the curriculum, at local events, and specially organised events where people in the community are invited to bring their photographs and tell their story.
- Where – In community centres, ICT centres, UK online centres, schools and anywhere else with access to the Internet.
- Why- The idea of e-histories is organic? The project is used to facilitate learning, networking and along the way, we collect resources (real stories) which are free for any learner or teacher to use. To our knowledge stories are being used in primary and secondary schools in adult education and key skills.
